The Life of Prophet Nuh (A.S.): A Story of Patience and Faith
Prophet Nuh (A.S.), known as Noah in the Bible, is one of the greatest prophets in Islam. His story is about faith that never wavered, patience that lasted for centuries, and complete trust in Allah. In the Qur’an, Allah mentions him many times as an example of steadfastness and the importance of believing in His oneness (Tawheed).
His Mission
Nuh (A.S.) lived among people who had turned away from Allah. They built idols named Wadd, Suwa’, Yaghuth, Ya’uq, and Nasr (Qur’an 71:23). These idols started as symbols of respect for good men of the past, but slowly became false gods. Allah chose Nuh (A.S.) to remind his people of the truth — that only Allah is worthy of worship.
950 Years of Calling
Nuh (A.S.) spent 950 years (Qur’an 29:14) calling his people to Allah. He spoke kindly, patiently, in public and in private. But most of them turned away.
Rejection and Hardship
The leaders of his people mocked him. They said he was just a man like them. They refused to give up their idols. Even his own wife and one of his sons did not believe. This shows us that faith is not passed by family blood, but by what is in the heart.
The Ark and the Flood
After centuries of rejection, Allah told Nuh (A.S.) that no one else would believe. He was commanded to build a huge ark. People laughed at him, because he was building a ship on dry land. But Nuh (A.S.) trusted Allah’s command.
Then the flood came. Water gushed from the ground and poured from the sky. Nuh (A.S.) gathered the believers and pairs of animals into the ark. The water rose so high it covered the mountains. Even his son who thought he could escape by climbing a mountain was drowned.
When Allah willed, the waters calmed, and the ark settled on Mount Judi (Qur’an 11:44). The believers left the ark to begin life again.
His Duas and Legacy
Nuh (A.S.) prayed for forgiveness for himself, his parents, and the believers. He is remembered as one of the Ulul Azm — the five greatest messengers: Ibrahim (A.S.), Musa (A.S.), Isa (A.S.), Muhammad ﷺ, and Nuh (A.S.).
Lessons from Prophet Nuh’s Life
- Patience: He preached for nearly 1,000 years without giving up.
- Trust in Allah: He built the ark without question.
- Strength in faith: He stood firm even when mocked.
- True connection is faith: Family ties do not guarantee belief.
